What Acid Strength Should I Use?

• 30% is a very light strength and applicable to almost all users. This should apply to most first time peelers.

• If you are slightly more adventurous, 40% will deliver stronger punch and gives you faster result.  However, we highly recommend you to start with 30% if you are not fully familiar with 30% glycolic acid

• If you have damaged skin and you are familiar with Glycolic acid, then 60% is for you.

When Will I See Results?

• Depend on the objective and frequency of the peel, significant improvement is not expected until you complete a series of peels, generally at least 6 peels. 

• You can see signs of improved skin typically in 3-4 peels with 30% acid. 

• 15% Acid would take twice as many peels as 30% acid due to its weak nature

• For seasoned peelers with stronger acid such as 40% or 60%, you can see results in less peels. We do not recommend inexperienced peelers to use 40% or 60% from the get-go.

• You could have improved brand new radiant skin in 12 peels.

How Often Should I Peel?

• We recommend 1 Peel per 1 to 2 weeks. Do NOT peel more than once a week!

Not every acid formulation is the same.

Why not?

Because it depends on the strength of the acid and the pH that is buffered at. Each acid has an “intrinsic acidity”, known to chemists as “pKa”. If the formulation is buffered at a pH higher than the pKa, the acid is no longer an effective acid. Buffering to a pH below the acid’s pKa makes the acid stronger. Glycolic acid has a pKa of 3.83. Many formulations buffer their pH higher than 3.83, meaning that the glycolic acid is essentially unable to act as an acid. All of our acids are buffered to a pH below 2.0, which makes our glycolic formulations the strongest on the market.

Glycolic Acid

Glycolic acid is the naturally occurring, non-toxic alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) originally found in sugar cane. Glycolic acid is ideal for cosmetic use because of its small molecular size. It penetrates and exfoliates the upper layers of the epidermis in a more direct and easy way than other AHA's.

AHA's work by loosening and dissolving the glue-like substance that binds skin cells together. The higher the percentage of AHA in a solution, the deeper through the skin's levels the AHA's will penetrate and the quicker the loosening of the skin cells will occur. This loosening process helps to exfoliate the buildup of dead skin cells of the epidermis exposing fresh, brilliant skin.

Unlike mechanical exfoliation (scrubs), the skin is not damaged by abrasives or by the physical manipulation of the scrubbing process. Sensitive skin in particular cannot deal well with harsh scrubs and exfoliators. This is the reason AHA's have become so popular. They produce much better results than scrubs. By 'ungluing' the skin at a much deeper level than cosmetic scrubs, AHA's produce a deeper exfoliation process.

The AHA exfoliation process exposes fresher, newer skin cells giving the appearance of a fresher, more youthful looking skin. Removing the top layer of the epidermis greatly improves the texture and coloration of the skin and unclogs pores. Studies have documented that glycolic acid helps produce natural collagen and elastin in the skin's cells improving elasticity! This leads to the promotion of a proper moisture balance after the exfoliation process.

Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic Acid -- has been extensively used to promote cellular water retention and cellular rejuvenation of skin cells in severe burn victims. Hyaluronic acid increases the moisture retention level on the skin's surface by more than 1,000%.

Hyaluronic Acid, used in our creams, is able to absorb up to 1,000 times its molecular weight in water. It acts like a molecular sponge. This fabulous 'molecular sponge' helps the skin by enhancing the process of cellular growth. Hyaluronic Acid adds suppleness -- which is essential for younger looking skin. This sponge-like quality gives the skin its youthful, firm appearance. 

When skin ages, the Hyaluronic Acid content of the dermis decreases over time. This lower content results in a loss of elasticity.

2oz Glycolic Acid Peels contain 10-15 applications, or 2 months of weekly peels. You should not do more than 1 application per week.

The 60% Glycolic Acid Peel is a high concentration Glycolic acid peels and is best for people who are experienced with the peeling process.

There may be redness soon after the peel, however the redness will fade quickly and some mild peeling/flaking will occur.

You can resume the exfoliation process after 1 week. 

As with all products, it should be used only as directed and a patch test is always recommended to see how your skin reacts to the peel.

BEFORE 1st USE
Before applying the Exfoliator (Glycolic acid for ex.), perform a “patch test” on a dime-sized area of the inside of your arm. As with any product, there is the chance that you may be highly sensitive to the glycolic acid. If you are highly sensitive you will experience burning and immediate redness. Immediately neutralize the area with soap and do not continue with the process.

KEY THINGS TO REMEMBER BEFORE APPLYING ACID EXFOLIATION
a. Keep the Exfoliator at least a quarter inch away from the eyes.
b. Do not apply to irritated, sensitive skin or open wounds.
c. If the product is applied to a small cut or abrasion and discomfort occurs, apply a small amount of Post Peel Neutralizer to the affected area to neutralize the Exfoliator.
d. Do not apply the acid to skin that has been waxed within 24 hours.
e. Do not apply the acid to skin that has been shaved within 24 hours

KEY THINGS TO REMEMBER POST-PEEL

a. Please DON'T apply any products or moisturizers (i.e. Alpha Balance Moisturizer) containing alpha hydroxy acids for 24 hours after applying the Exfoliator. Use of too many layers of glycolic acid may cause skin irritation.
b. Please use sunscreen and DON'T overly-expose your face to the sun for 24 hours after applying the glycolic exfoliator.
c. Please DON'T wax the skin for 24 hours after applying the exfoliator.
d. Please DON'T shave directly after application of the exfoliator
